Nonprofits receive a new web presence on WordPress-GiveBack DC
As you probably know by now, The Web Development Group is holding its first ever GiveBack DC. The purpose of this event is to give back to the local community through the best means we know possible: web development and design. GiveBack DC has already garnered a lot of attention. It has been highlighted on the Pappas Group blog, The Industry, Nonprofit Roundtable, and other technology/nonprofit news sources. All this press has resulted in a pouring in of applications from nonprofits and volunteers.
The volunteer selection process was fairly straightforward. We needed web designers, developers, strategists, and project managers. Each applicant was asked to submit their resume and/or portfolio and based on our need for their skills we made the selection. Over 50 motivated and talented community members applied.
The selection for nonprofits was slightly more challenging. After reviewing need and financials there were a few organizations that really suck out to us. We are happy to announce that we will be building a new web presence for Borromeo Housing, DC Diaper Bank, and Phoenix Bikes. These organizations will be able to better reach their intended audience with the completion of a new web presence.
We have also received support from ten generous sponsors, including our official sponsor, WordPress. All sites will be built on WordPress and the selected organizations will receive training, a year of hosing provided by BlackMesh, and a social media presence. This is a great opportunity and we couldn’t be happy to be working with the chosen organizations!
Follow the GiveBack DC Blog to learn more about each organization in the coming days as well as review a list of nonprofits that applied for GiveBack DC but were not selected. Our hope is that other community members will reach out to these organizations to help them with their site.
